Hummingbird Studio Use

Hummingbird also includes a large adobe studio building where we create our artwork and hold classes and workshops.  Except during workshops there is often room for others to work here when they are B&B guests.  The charge for using the studio is $5/hr. (minimum $20per day) including clay and glaze (within limits), and a bisque firing. Glaze firings are charged separately.  Instruction with Dennis or Leslie is also available at the rate of $40/hr. up to 4 students, $10/hr for each additional student.  In about 700 square feet of workspace there are two potter’s wheels, canvas covered tables, an extruder, miscellaneous  handbuilding and throwing tools, shelving, sinks, a small ‘fridge for drinks and snacks (guest’s or to purchase), ceramic videos, magazines and books: everything needed for a studio away from home. For longer stays there are electric kilns and a raku kiln; a soda fire kiln is planned.

Camping at Hummingbird- Available during Summer Workshops
The property is four and a half acres of wild grasses/weeds and scrub oak trees.  There are a few (almost) level places to pitch a tent that afford some shade.  The full-bath in the studio building may be shared by campers, but no food preparation is allowed in the studio. A good cafe is located less than a mile away. Fire danger is EXTREMELY high in the summer and no open flame of any kind is allowed by campers, including smoking. If this rule is violated you will be asked to leave immediately. A few parking spaces are available for RV's; leveling devices may be necessary.

A New "room" at HUMMINGBIRD

"The Pumphouse"
The first adobe building we constructed on our property years ago became known as the "pumphouse" because of its proximity to our well. It has served several purposes over the years and most recently was spiffed up to be an office for a friend of ours who does bodywork. The friend has now moved to London and we have another place to house guests! This is several steps above camping in that the room has considerable charm, is cool in summer, very quiet and furnished with a futon bed. BUT there is no plumbing so guests will need to walk to the studio to use the full bath. While this is unthinkable to some, others will not be bothered a whit, so we are offering this accommodation at $48/night, which includes a full breakfast on the deck of our straw-bale home, as described above.
