Our Upstairs Room has a window overlooking the garden and the hills to the east. It is a cozy room with cool colors that has a comfortable queen bed and sleeping benches under the eaves so it can serve as a dormitory arrangement for groups. A small half-bath with toilet and sink is tucked into one corner; showers may be taken in the large, sunny bathroom on the main floor. 

Our Lower Level is a cheery yellow studio apartment, that stays deliciously cool in the heat of summer, with private entrance, a queen bed and twin day-bed, full bath and mini kitchen equipped with dishes, glasses and tableware for four, full set of pots and pans, a microwave, toaster oven and two-burner hot plate.(Full refrigerator/freezer is in the hall) There is a drop-leaf dining table in the room and another table right outside under the oak tree. Comfortable lawn chairs and hammock under the shade of the upper deck complete these accommodations that have prompted guests to say " I want to stay here forever!"

Guests are welcome to enjoy our south-east deck with comfortable chairs to enjoy the view.  When it's warm we usually serve breakfast on the deck as well. Breakfast will vary but usually includes home-made breads and jams, farm-fresh eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt and beverages.

 Sound good? It is! And it will be better when the above scenario is “finished”.  In the meantime, the guest rooms are completed and everyone loves visiting here, so rather than wait until everything is completed before welcoming Bed & Breakfast guests, we are offering to share our home “as-is” at a discount. Below is a list of some of the things still incomplete at Hummingbird and each affords you a discount. As we make progress these discounts will gradually disappear and the rates will be comparable to other B&B’s in the area.

  1. 10% - The Kochelofen – this will be our main heat in the house. Right now it is a a large brick presence in the living room awaiting its finish. Is nearly finished!
  2. 5% - The Front Porch – is still gravel and also has a big pile of soil waiting to become earthen plaster.
  3. 2% - Main Bath and Kitchen - are awaiting the decorative accent tiles we are making
  4. 5% - House and Studio – neither has the finish coat of earth plaster- this will be happening this summer!
  5. 3% - Misc. details that go on and on and on

That adds up to about 10% off a stay of 2 nights or more excepting the charge for extra people. This lack of completion can be unsightly from specific vantage points, but  will not hinder your comfort or convenience during your stay with us, and you may enjoy seeing an alternative building project as it progresses.

A New "room" at HUMMINGBIRD


"The Pumphouse"
The first adobe building we constructed on our property years ago became known as the "pumphouse" because of its proximity to our well. It has served several purposes over the years and most recently was spiffed up to be an office for a friend of ours who does bodywork. The friend has now moved to London and we have another place to house guests! This is several steps above camping in that the room has considerable charm, is cool in summer, very quiet and furnished with a double bed. BUT there is no plumbing so guests will need to walk about one minute to the studio to use the full bath. While this is unthinkable to some, others will not be bothered a whit, so we are offering this accommodation at
$55 for one night,$48/night for two nights or more, $288/week. June through Sept only
A full breakfast is served on the deck of our straw-bale home, as described above.
Well behaved dogs are allowed in the Pumphouse. The charge is $10/night (inquire for longer stays)
